KARTCHNER CAVERNS
Approximately 10 minutes north of Mountain View is the region's newest
attraction, world renowned Kartchner Caverns State Park. Discovered
in 1974 and kept a secret for 14 years, Kartchner Caverns is a seven
acre limestone cave with 2-1/2 miles of passages including two main
galleries, both the size of football fields and featuring 100-foot high
ceilings. The caverns are a kaleidoscope of color with a wide variety
of multicolored formations in nearly perfect condition. This subterranean
jewel box has taken a million years or more to form and is one of only
a handful of "living" caves in the world. Open since 1999
for public tours, this natural wonder is wheelchair accessible so everyone
can easily enjoy it's beauty. Check with Kartchner Caverns State Park
for operating hours, tour times and reservation system procedures. For
information call 520-586-4100, for reservations 520-586-2283.
