PARKER CANYON LAKE
On the western slope of the Huachucas, Parker Canyon Lake offers
fishing, boating, hiking, and camping. The 133-acre lake is a joint
effort between the Arizona Game and Fish Department and the Forest Service
and is a favorite recreational area in southeast Arizona. The lake is
stocked several times a year with trout. Other fish found in the lake
include catfish, bass, bluegill, and sunfish. During the winter, ducks,
shorebirds and even the bald eagle find suitable habitat in and around
the lake. A hiking trail surrounds the lake. The marina at the lake
offers bait and food for sale, boat rental, and a boat-launching ramp.
The parking lot is paved and the marina and observation benches are
accessible to the handicapped. Arizona Hwy 83, a dirt road from just
south of Sonoita, Arizona provides access from the north. Southern access
is by dirt forest road from Montezuma pass. For current conditions,
call 520-455-5847.
